AHC/WI: During Civil War, Imperial Russia reestablishes gov't in Istanbul

With a POD in 1914, and without significantly changing the military course of war, make it so that during the Russian Civil War the Emperor and his troops flee to resettle in Istanbul(perhaps redeclared as Constantinople?) and secure a defensible perimeter against both Turks and Soviets.
Possible reasons why Entente would accept this:
1. Russian emigres could resettle in this area.
2. Due to personal ties between Russian and British royalty, Britain gains secured access to Black Sea.
3. Soviets cannot penetrate the Mediterranean.
4. ???

Maybe Wrangel's whites flee, join the Greeks in their war against the Turks, and the Tsar gets some kind of exiled white government in part of Istanbul a la Vatican City in Italy?

Most likely imo, would definitely help Greece hold the line against Ankara even if it isn't a majority of the forces under his command. Don't see why they wouldn't get at least some land out of it, might not be Constantinople, but something significant

The Straits-based Russian exile tsardom will join into personal union with a Megali Idea-achieving Greece to form the new Byzantine Empire.

It depends on the nature of the expedition into Turkey.

If it's a few disgruntled troops getting sent down to help out the Greeks after the Reds are really close to winning, not much will change.

If it's a full on invasion of Turkey to try to salvage the idea of Christian Russia, things are gonna get... weird. Instead of a Pontic Greek and Turkish republic, the Russians might end up settling to the east of a Megali Greece.

Nine chances out of ten all that would happen is Greece would just be a little bigger and the tsar would be a corpse in someone's basement.

Pretty sure Ataturk would get pretty pissed at having the Russians take over an integral Turkish city (and presumably expelling its Muslim inhabitants, barring Entente intervention). Fortunately, Istanbul is easier to defend and the Greeks would definitely appreciate the extra help, especially if the likelihood of Constantinople being annexed to Greece or under Greek influence is improved with an Orthodox Russian rule.

You'd need the Ottomans to collapse earlier (seeing how incompetent Enver Pasha was, I suppose it could go that way). As for the sea matters and denying the Soviets, Turkey staying strong does the same thing more effectively. Detaching it just pushes the Turks towards anyone who can help them reclaim the straits.

Soviets are not going to like having claimants to the Russian throne so close though. The interwar would be a bit tense.
