AHC/WI: Different Colonial names.

(This is my first post, so any type of mistakes I make, feel free to correct me, including if this is in the right area)

When the colonization of America happened, the mother country would usually lay the foundation of the area and how it would be known, including what said area would be called, My question is how would areas be different if they where
A Colonized by a different country and/or B Given a different name. Examples include a more bigger Dutch north american or south American colony, larger area around the Falklands by England (parts of the southern tip) or something completely different. I noticed that most (if not all) regions where named through he surrounding area geography and/or resources included in one place, so that could be some advice.

So you want different colonial names like new England? So if any country is more successful in their colonisation effort a part of the east coast could be named new Sweden or new Netherlands and these regions would probably speak their respective language which would lead to a more diverse america today. Even if the British colonies break free to form the USA the not English speaking regions wouldn't join like Quebec.
An English colony in Argentina would be pretty difficult because the Spanish were first in Buenos Aires. Maybe they set it up in Patagonia as a supply base for ships going to China.

The Argentina one is more of a last minute idea, perhaps it could happen if the main colonial finders (I.E Spain and Portugal). Also would the other colonies just stick to New *insert Name here*, if they did break away, wouldn't they try to have something different, like New Sweden going the historic route and going Vinland.

Well if the Prince Madoc story were real (perhaps it was but not much evidence for it) you would have a lot of Welsh names for places.

That could be quite fun.
A small welsh colony in Alabama, I kinda like the idea of maybe finding Cuba, then setting up a small country out of the Cuban Islands, Jamacia, and maybe parts of Florida (possible called ffrwythlon, welsh translation for Fertile)

a particular general on a particular image board website had a google doc of potential alternate colony/colonial region names...

I'm not sure how plausible the whole Madoc legend is (I personally don't believe it, although I'm willing to accept it as an outlier possibility), but it sure would IMO make for an interesting story. A Welsh (and later, English/British) Cuba, Florida and Gulf/Delta region would be a good way to explore the interior via the *Mississippi, not to mention the possibilities of imposing their will on the New World trade in precious minerals and goods in competition with the Spanish. Of course, I wonder what that would mean for the east coast, which BTW might take up the name of "Arcadia" at least in the Northeast (this name could even work for a regional demonym within a *USA/*BNA expy that's not New England), if not the entire seaboard.

I don't think they get that far, seeing as if the Madoc legend is true, the evidence bring limited is something in its favor, as you have realistic results when blindly starting on the new world, I think the name Acadia could be used once the British Find it, and possible take the name either for the whole region of the east coast, or just the Virginia Maryland region. Also A English and British Cuba from the welsh colony I think would become Independent after America or an equivalent revolution (especially if they do survive all that time, as they have a larger base for an independent nation after having one for all those hundreds of years.)
