So most of you know who Christina of Sweden is and for those of you who don't, here's a brief summery. The only surviving legitimate child of Protestant champion Gustavus Adolphus, she was famous for her interest in books and manuscripts, religion, alchemy, and science. But her most famous action was abdicating the throne of one of the most powerful Protestant nations at the time to convert to Catholicism. Something people might not know about her is that she plotted with Cardinal Mazarin, chief Minister of France, to gain the throne of Spanish-controlled Naples. Sadly for her this plot ended with her ordered murder of Gian Rinaldo Monaldeschi, her Master of the Horse, who had betrayed her plans to Spain. After this murder, the plot collapsed. So what if Christina never ordered the murder or better yet Monaldeschi never betrayed her and she successfully gained the throne of Naples?

What next? Would she be able to hold her new throne with French support? How would an independent Naples change the course of history in Europe?
