AHC/WI: Christina of Sweden, Queen of Naples

So most of you know who Christina of Sweden is and for those of you who don't, here's a brief summery. The only surviving legitimate child of Protestant champion Gustavus Adolphus, she was famous for her interest in books and manuscripts, religion, alchemy, and science. But her most famous action was abdicating the throne of one of the most powerful Protestant nations at the time to convert to Catholicism. Something people might not know about her is that she plotted with Cardinal Mazarin, chief Minister of France, to gain the throne of Spanish-controlled Naples. Sadly for her this plot ended with her ordered murder of Gian Rinaldo Monaldeschi, her Master of the Horse, who had betrayed her plans to Spain. After this murder, the plot collapsed. So what if Christina never ordered the murder or better yet Monaldeschi never betrayed her and she successfully gained the throne of Naples?

What next? Would she be able to hold her new throne with French support? How would an independent Naples change the course of history in Europe?

There was an earlier TL about this. There's no proof Christina would've been an any better ruler in Naples than she was in Stockholm. Also, a crown would have needed an heir, which means that the possibly lesbian Christina would have to marry (something she was repulsed by, probably as a result of her mom giving her such a hard time growing up). But she might have different characteristics necessary to rule Naples rather than Sweden.

The earlier TL had Christina adopt Ulrike Eleonora (Carl XII's sister), as her heir, which I thought was rather interesting, especially since Ulrike was reportedly devoted to the Reformed Church in Sweden, asking young ladies on their presentation at court about the Bible, and she got several Swedish bishops to lecture her OTL husband about his affairs with Hedvig Taube, Countess Hessenstein.

And the other thing that the TL did which I was unsure about, was that the Papacy handed the Papal States over to the Kingdom of Naples in exchange for privileges within the much larger kingdom of Naples and Rome.

So, either Christina does a complete volte-face and marries (who?), or she dies without an heir - and the Neapolitan throne, as stated in the original plan, devolves onto a French princeling (unlikely to be Condé (since Louis XIV distrusted him)) - or, option 3: she adopts someone as her heir.

Personally, I think it'd be cool if the 'girl-king' were to marry some Catholic prince, have maybe two children - menopause started around thirty-five in the 17th century - and thereby provide new genetic material to the horribly inbred Catholic royals of the day. Maybe a daughter could even marry Carlos II of Spain?

Yeah no guarantee she would be better in Naples than in Sweden, but she wasn't meant to be some Great Queen. She was meant to be a placeholder for a French Prince.

Yeah that TL sounds very unlikely and that the author did very little research. Naples= Catholic, so no way they would accept a Lutheran Queen. Nor is there ANY way the Papal States would give up their independence to their nominal vassal. That's bordering, in not totally ASB.

The original plan was for Christina to become Queen of Naples, and when she died leave the throne to a French Prince, I believe Louis XIV's brother Philippe d'Orleans, though that might change by the time she dies.

Well, what about marrying her off to the teenaged Philippe of Orleans? Christina was so masculine that Philippe might have found her easier to bed than his OTL wives; anyway, all they'd have to do is produce one or two little Bourbons to inherit Naples.

OK Christina is NOT gonna get married. If she didn't for her own realm why would she do so for Naples? Not gonna happen. Most likely we'll see a situation similar to that of Joanna II of Naples and her adopted heirs. Joanna adopted Louis III of Anjou and later his brother as her heirs. So we'll likely see Philippe or another Branch bourbon or perhaps even Henri II Duc de Guise or his heirs. France had multiple princlings with Angevin claims on Naples.
