AHC & WI: Byzantine Iconoclasts Win

How can the iconoclasts 'win' so that icon veneration is never restored and iconoclasm becomes an ingrained part of the Orthodox faith? How does it affect the Empire and the ideology of the state? Are they further weakened in the west and/or strengthened in the east? How does it affect the memory of the Byzantines with iconoclasm's permanent influence on Byzantine art? Is the iconoclasm of Protestantism butterflied or perhaps Protestantism itself? Does having this one area of common ground with the Islamic world change anything in that relationship?

I think that the Empire has to actually rebound during that period for the iconoclasts to win, which is a near impossibility I suspect.

Why would it be a near impossibility? They had several impressive lookingx victories on the surface. I most of them where either pyrrhic or strategic defeats but tactical wins but if the emperors then where more strategically competent they could well have stablized the borders around Antioch and Edessa and stop raiding, even if they probably can't reclaim too much land.

God, I had something like that almost happen to me in CKII. That's why I killed her by sending her husband(my spy master) after her. That's what she gets for being a woman... with girly parts.
