AHC/WI: Bulgarians restore the Byzantine Empire

Elaborate, please.
Historically Greeks and Bulgarians had a politized religious schism that was part of the nationalist struggle for the Orthodox clergy in Ottoman Macedonia.

A Greater Bulgaria controlling Mount Athos and Constantinople would hold the two spiritual and theological centers of whole Orthodox world, and would certainly utilize this spiritual prestige for political gain - much to the dismay of Greek and Russian Orthodox nationalists.

As far as I remember, the Bulgarian national church was in a state of schism and non-recognition with the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople...so things would certainly get interesting, in the Chinese sense, if Bulgaria captures the city for good.

Could it get the point where it becomes the basis, or part of the basis, for a Greco-Bulgarian war?

'I have only one Thessaloniki, which I have already surrendered', as the Ottoman commander remarked to the Bulgarians when Greeks had beaten them in the race to the city by mere days. If Bulgaria manages to seize the city and Athos peninsula as well as Constantinople, I'd argue that the Greeks nationalists would be in a state of frenzy.
