AHC/WI: Barack Obama IS Born in Kenya

At worst, it would lead some people to reconsider repealing the "native born citizen as POTUS" part of the Constitution, which IMHO is archaic anyway.

Agreed. But considering the explosion of racist xenophobia over Barack Obama, I doubt that anyone this side of a Canadian or Briton born American citizen wouldn't face similar problems. I suspect that even an Irish born American citizen would face opposition research doing one-handed handsprings and backflips of illogic trying to "prove" said candidate's/POTUS' connections (even if by remote family members) to the IRA or Nor-Aid. And if Protestant Irish instead, to the UVF and Paisleyite Marching Societies!:eek::mad:

If we were talking about someone where race is not an issue, I would imagine that the interpretation would certainly be a natural born citizen being a person who was born as a US citizen, irrespective of their physical location. Otherwise we can play silly games about John McCain, George Romney et al.

Perhaps. But despite "talk" of George Meade running for President after Gettysburg, no one ever took the idea seriously, precisely because there was always the danger that SCOTUS could step in and scuttle a campaign POST-nomination.

In every case where the status of a foreign-born "possible" candidate appeared, they were always considered ineligible right from the get-go. Though I agree that if George Romney were a descendant of fifth generation Americans who were of Hispanic-Mexican descent, that if his name were "Jose Ramirez", that his political opponents would decry his being a "Mexican" despite his parents' citizenship and that he had come to America shortly after birth. Charging McCain, OTOH, of being a "Panamanian", is even more ludicrous than the attacks on Obama, if that's even possible.
