AHC & WI: ATL Sioux War and Red River Rebellion during Trent War

Considering the ways a Trent War might be fought, I've sometimes wondered if a war might trigger an early alternate version of or events similar to the Red River Rebellion or intersect with the latter part of the Sioux Wars, with groups like the Sioux and their allies and the Métis used as proxies.

Your challenge is to think of a plausible way for this to happen. In particular, what could provoke an earlier Métis rebellion in Assiniboia?

Second, how do you think such sideshows to the main war would play out? Would groups either side of the border have a hope for greater autonomy or even independence during or following the conflict?

For Red River you're going to need an earlier Canada, or at least an earlier change-over of the governance of Rupert's Land.

As far as the Sioux, the Dakota, Colorado Wars, and the Powder River Wars all took place against the backdrop of the US Civil War so I'm not quite sure what you're asking there.

I'm asking people to speculate on what level of support the British might give covertly or overtly to the Sioux or their allies during a hypothetical Trent War and what would end up happening to the tribes during or after such a war.

I'm surprised no one's swung in yet to give the standard 'the Indians would be crushed because Manifest Destiny.'

Well what probably happens is a quick Trent war USA loses, CSA may or may not become independent. British don't have time to arm indians outside California and the west coast. USA can't afford to send anyone into the almost empty Red River area.

However, after the war the USA is in serious financial trouble and uses land sales in the west to help ballance the books. Indians swept away much more quickly and with even less hmanity than in OTL. Think Herero and Germany in OTL or British and Tasmainian bushmen.

What happens on the west coast depends on who ends up owning the west coast. Probably the USA therefore the indians are dealt with like thier fellow aboriginals in the west.
