AHC/WI: Asturias Reconquista

Challenge:
How can the Kingdom of Asturias accomplish a complete conquista of the Iberian peninsula between Pelagius' defeat of an Umayyad army at the Battle of Covadonga and the 924 CE transition to the Kingdom of Leon.

What effect would a surviving visigothic kingdom have on Europe?

Almost none?
They're already Catholic, few speak Visigothic, I don't think there'd likely be very much difference between this 'Spain' and OTL's, really.

'Spanish' might be closer to today's Portuguese than to Castillian, but that's not going to affect the rest of Europe.

Well, there would be major differences just in having a unified Christian Spain that early in history. I'd say the best shot for this would be to not have the Umayyads set up their successor state in Spain. The Arabs and Berbers could remain disunited and weak. Hell, when the Umayyads fell in the east, its not as though Spain had been under their rule for long. Hardly enough time to really establish a solid foundation for continued rule. A few major defeats, with the Muslims already divided, and, honestly, there's no reason they couldn't fall just as easily as the Visigoths did. In this case, the major threat is actually the Franks beating Asturias to the punch.
