In WW1, the Ottomans expand at Italy's expense. They gain Eritrea and Italian Somaliland. They also conquer Chad from France.

When Decolonization comes around, the Ottomans support anti-colonial movements in Central Africa. Islam becomes seen as the faith of religious resistance and spreads in Central Africa, particularly the Congo and Great Lakes region, and thus spreads significantly.

Also, Rwanda did not convert to Christianity offiically until the early 20th century. I see no reason why for political purposes the Rwandan King couldn't convert to Islam rather than Christianity.

Additionally, have Egypt control Sudan and Southern Sudan and promote Islam in the south.




47% of Africa's population is Islam today. Convert the Congo, Southern Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya and you're probably past 60%.
