AHC/WI: A trans female in a position of power.

It arguably already happened with Elagabalus, but then again we should be cautious when applying modern concepts to the past. But yeah, that's your best bet, have a monarch inherit the throne then come out and ride out the ensuing dissent somehow.

Ok what the ever living fuck? This emperor may have prostituted himself apparently? And became emperor at 14?

Give it like 20-50 years.

Only way to really move up that timetable would be to accelerate the rise of social liberalism-maybe if the counterculture/gay liberation/sexual revolution occurred in the 1950’s instead of the 1960’s and were more successful? You’d have to pretty dramatically alter the course of the decade to get that outcome, but really that’s the only way I could see major mainstream trans politicians any time before the present.

It's also possible to disentangle the trans and LGB rights movements. Basically, have western society take something like the post-1987 Iranian view: gender dysphoria is simply a disease for which sex reassignment surgery is the cure. If this viewpoint is ingrained early enough, transgender politicians could be accepted by modern day.

My opinion's that, when it comes to gender dysphoria and similar issues, we know about it as much as Sigmund Freud knew about the human mind in general: that is, not a lot.

An earlier interest in such issues would do a lot to counter bigotry and misinformation on the subject - both opponents of trans rights and trans people themselves can say some weird stuff from time to time, more often than not based on ideology rather than science - and as a result trans people would be far more accepted than they are today.
