There was a period in Ottoman history (know as the sultanate of women) were the mothers and wives of the sultans held great influence over the government. So how could the 'reverse' of this situation, where it instead are a sultans daughters or sisters who wield significant influence, arise?
Might a sultan try to give his oldest daughters some authority/influence over his sons in the hope that they could use it to prevent a civil war for the throne? Or, alternatively, could he try to give some of his sisters informal influence over the administration in order to erode the influence of the Phanariots, Muslim aristocrats, whomever?
