By which is meant a Hungarian Soviet Republic that lasts beyond the revolutionary period until at least WWII and remains at least nominally Communist. It cannot become a constituent republic of the USSR, and ideally remains outside of Soviet vassalage a la Mongolia and Tannu Tuva pre-WW2 or the Warsaw Pact afterwards.
How does having a Communist Balkan state affect the interwar period in the Balkans and the broader alliance structures? How does it impact the Comintern if the Soviets aren't the only Communist state? How does it impact WWII--does Hitler simply add Magyar Bolshevism to the things he rants about, or does Hungary actually resist somehow? I would imagine Romania would be hesitant to join the Axis as it would be outflanked by the Reds who would love an excuse to link up their borders.
