In late March 1945 Patton sent a task force of the 4th Armored Division to liberate the POW camp at Hammelburg Germany about 50 miles behind German lines. The raid was a failure.

What would it take to make the mission a success? Would sending a combat command of the 4th Armored Division have made a difference?
(1 tank battalion 1 Armored Infantry battalion and supporting artillery).

Instead of trying to keep the mission low key should Patton have worked with the US 7th Army whose 14th Armored Division captured the camp two weeks after Task Force Baum OTL? Task Force Baum could have been attached to the 14th AD so that a 3rd Army unit still got all the glory.
