AHC: Washington wins at Germantown

The Americans could have won the battle had the fog not been so thick and had they had the presence of mind to isolate and move past the Chew House rather than try to take it.

A decisive victory would have involved pinning the British army against the river and destroying it, which would have ended the war. That was unlikely, although it was perfectly possible for the Americans to win the battle.

What if he lucks out - does it have the effect of a Yorktown, but only in 1777?

If the British make their mind to try to get out of the war at this point, how will the peace negotiations go, and will boundaries between the US and remaining BNA be any different than OTL's 1783 settlement?

Could a knock-on effect of an earlier victory, less disruptive of property, and less taxing on manpower, be that slavery holds on longer in the north, and free black populations in the south are minimized?

Maybe, but weren't most of the escaped slaves in the south either recaptured, or went overseas?

I still think they contributed to the free people of color in Charleston and Savannah, even if a lot of them did as you said.
