Have you read about the Zhongshan warship incident? This might be a good, earlyish POD.....Second one.

Oh yeah Japan was really fucking lucky OTL. Like honestly the fact that they lasted 4 fucking years is pretty amazing. Can you hear that sound? It's the sound of CalBear's heavy steps in the distance, bringing another japano-skeptical comment.
Oh they'll lose, definitely. How would you bring this about though?IMO, Japan had the chance to be even luckier in WW2. However, it would still be all in vain, because of Allied production capacities.
Bring what about?Oh they'll lose, definitely. How would you bring this about though?
You mentioned that Japan could have gotten luckier in WW2. Well what would happen?Bring what about?
Japan had opportunities to invade India (during 1942 or the Imphal-Kohima Campaign of 1944), invade Darwin in northwestern Australia, execute Operation Ichi-Go earlier (perhaps through a success at Midway), encircle Australia, and also stall the Americans in the Pacific for a few more years. But they only had so much capability for multitasking. You mentioned that Japan could have gotten luckier in WW2. Well what would happen?
Logistics make most of those impossible.Japan had opportunities to invade India (during 1942 or the Imphal-Kohima Campaign of 1944), invade Darwin in northwestern Australia, execute Operation Ichi-Go earlier (perhaps through a success at Midway), encircle Australia, and also stall the Americans in the Pacific for a few more years.
Indeed, if the Japanese try doing all of them at once. However, they did sometimes pose a potential offensive threat to the Allies at certain locations.Logistics make most of those impossible.
So it seems a lot of people are leaning on "just don't go to war with the Western Powers" which makes sense. Japan is a newcomer late to the game and is not able to catch up to the West just yet. So let's assume that they do stay out of the war then....How powerful can they get?
Even under relatively ideal conditions, those supply lines to India are not sustainable.Indeed, if the Japanese try doing all of them at once. However, they did sometimes pose a potential offensive threat to the Allies at certain locations.
