AHC Wank Max Stirner, Screw Marx / Engels

American mutualist Benjamin Tucker was the first one to publish an English translation of The Ego and Its Own, and it seems like his political philosophy was greatly influenced by Stirner. Mutualists were very present in the international workers movement during its early days. I could see some form of this ideology becoming dominant on the left instead of Marxism.

I really think that some form of egoism-infused mutualism is the closest thing we can get to having actual egoism as a mainstream ideology.

Oh yes, mutualism is a good candidate. But it was around in Stirner's time, and Stirner discarded proudhon, too, as a "sacred socialist".

To be fair his dismissal of Proudhon could have been due to his reactionary social views and moralistic framework rather than the conclusions he came to. Maybe a more successful Steiner might attempt to turn Proudhon on his head and provide an egoist framework for Mutualism?

Thing is, Stirner's social views were just so far off the mainstream that turning mutualism more socially progressive (+atheist) is not likely to enhance its success in the 19th century.

What could have wanked mutualism to no end was if i reached out to the peasantry more than it did IOTL. Think of Raiffeisen and the whole cooperative movement going full-on anticapitalist...
