AHC: Wank Luxembourg

Its a common gag in the Paradox community to make Luxembourg, one of the smallest nations in the world, strong. Through cheating the game they could turn the small nation into a powerhouse that even the greatest of nations would think twice about attacking. Your challenge is to do the same.

before 1900 this would be easy

after 1900 however,is near ASB. Luxembourg is incredibly small and surrounded by some heavyweights

Gone Fishin'
Nukes fly and by some miracle Luxembourg avoids any direct and indirect damage. As the only country in its region still standing, the Prime Minister and his emergency Cabinet see fit for Luxembourg to annex its immediate surroundings, absorbing communities that haven't devolved into banditry.

the same miracle that grants luxembourg protection from damage would also affect its immediate surrounding, which is still stronger than luxembourg. and thats not even accounting some still existing foreign army company stumbling along

Well, you would actually need a pre-1900 PoD to achieve it, and IMHO you should consider its neighbors in the east, the Moselle Franconian-region, either annexing Trier-Bitburg region or the whole Southern Rhineland.

Pre-1900, nut past 1800 it is easy to double Luxemburg in size: There is a Belgian province of Luxembourg roughly equal in size to the grand-duchy. Originally it was part of the greater arch-duchy realm but when Luxemburg became independent, the Belgians kept that region as its 9th (now 10th) province on the grounds that its population was majority French-speaking instead of Letcheburgish. Have a different view on the matter by a couple of bigger European neighbors and you could have a Luxemburg twice today's size. Not that it would matter much. It would still be smaller than even Belgium. But yea, it is possible.

To me, the best way to make Luxemburg an economic powerhouse is to turn it into a smaller version of Switzerland. L-town is already famous as a duty free zone for Belgians to stack up on tax-free boose. If you would add a banking system as secretive as the Swiss, many nations would -as per challenge- 'think twice before attacking' out of fear of what they might find.

I was expecting this to be about wanking Rosa Luxemburg.

Suggestion: Make Rosa Luxemburg fucking ripped so she can just smash through the walls of the Reichstag like the Kool-Aid Man.

Folks, you won't believe it, but Luxenbourg is a major SPACE POWER nowadays. You think world leader in GEO communication satellites is the United States or Europe ? All wrong. Luxembourg is the major player !
They started from zero in 1985 - this was entirely unrelated to ESA or Ariane (ESA and its members had their own communication satellites)

And then it goes even crazier.
More than happy with the performance of SES, this year Luxembourg has decided to enter the asteroid mining business

So I'd say - don't mess with Luxembourg in the next future. They might throw big space rocks at you !

After 1900, Luxembourg could request after WWI or WWII the lands Prussia received from them in 1815. It isn't much land, but it's something.

Pre-1900, keep Belgian Luxembourg under Luxembourg rule, either by failure of the Belgian Revolution or different settlement of the conflict. And the maybe a Great War in the future to get Luxembourg back the Prussian-held lands.

Pre-1900, I know that the Luxembourgish had some sort of union with Brandenburg; just have that union eventually lead to a true political union and now Luxembourg will be strong.

The only way I can think to wank it after 1900 is to have WWII be much different, warranting Luxembourg a large slice of former German territory in some sort of weird scheme to destroy Germany.

Apparently Luxembourg actually did plan on annexing land from Germany, but it was only a fragment of their 1815 loss to Prussia.

I think if you can get any version of the Bakker-Schut Plan authorised in the immediate period after the post-war, then Luxembourg will probably take back as much of the Prussian part of Luxembourg as possible, and maybe a bit more to link up the bit that's discontinuous from Luxembourg (you'd have to go through Belgian, and Belgian won't give up that land in that era).

Have the House of Nassau-Weilburg end up as the ruling family of a German State after a different War of 1866. Exclude Prussia, but have the other German states and bits of Belgium/Netherlands joined in a kind of resurrected HRE?

It already is.
Financial services are the core of the Luxemburgian economy, and Luxemburg has the second highest GDP per capita in the world.

Make someone from Luxembourg the President of the European Commission perhaps?

Oh wait.......

To be honest, Luxembourg already punches well above it's weight I think. Unless you also want territorial gains as well (ASB) OTL is pretty much as good as you are going to get.

Please, we can do much better than that. There was a plan to internationalise the Ruhr following WWII. Instead, it could be annexed to Luxembourg, along with enough land to connect the two.

Which would have made the Letzeburgians a minority in their own country.
Doubt they would have wanted that.
Well, the Letzeburgians are linguistically related to southern Rhinelanders (Moselle Franconian speakers), or more specifically, the people of Bitburg-Trier region.
