AHC: USA-Russia Union

The 19th century anarchist philosopher Bakunin wanted to see Siberia seperate from Russian Empire, ally with/become part of USA and than "spread democracy" from the East to West.

So here is a challenge based on this: with a POD after 1800 AD, have USA and Russia enter a union by the year 2014.

Some caviats:

1) Russia should have at least its modern (2014) borders (& lets mot get into a debate over Crimea please).
2) Ideally Russia should still be a monarchy.
3) By year 2014 the US-Russia Union should be at least as integrated as the OTL European Union. Ideally, they should be merged into one nation.

So, lets see you give it your best shot!

I was admittedly a bit of a Bakunin aficionado back in the day.....but, TBH.....this really wouldn't have worked. The U.S. and Russia were simply too different.

Well, the most "plausible" way to do it is to have the Communist Party of the USA manage to take over America, preferably sometime between 1919 and 1924 when "world revolution" was dropped as a goal.

With both Russia and the US going red, it's almost certain that "world revolution" would become the main Communist line of thinking, with the attendant goal of the "withering away of the state". As such Russia and the US will probably be merged into one single USSR. Then it's just a question of superior leadership overcoming regional differences (pretty unlikely, but so is US Communist revolution) and solidifying the union within a generation.

Miniscule chances of happening, but it's at least more plausible than a scenario where America turns into a monarchy and then, through whatever dynastic mechanics, enters into personal union with Russia.
