AHC: USA moderating force in Israel vs Palestine conflict

Exactly what it says on the tin. What POD could make the US more of a moderating force between both parties in the conflict instead of solely pro Israel?

I think it's going to be necessary to remove the close cooperation between Egypt under Nasser and the USSR, and have Jordan do something which demostrates more clearly that the Kingdom is not just 'interim regime until the inevitable civil war/revolution etc.' as the Americans seemed to believe for most of the Cold War.

This pushes the palestinians more into the 'neutral' came than the 'Soviet' camp at least in the Cold War, which should make the US more amenable to this sort of thing at least.

Keep the neocons from getting power in the GOP.

Reagan and Bush Sr. were very even handed when dealing with the issue. Reagan condemned Israel's attack on Iraqi nuclear reactors, something Republicans never would have done today. Daddy Bush also did not toe the Israeli line when trying to come with a compromise between the two sides.

The GOP has to be the moderating force, because Jews tend to vote for the Democratic Party. After the GOP lost the realists, moderating the Israeli-Palestinian issue became impossible.

Make premillenial dispensationalism not take off in American religion. A huge part of why the GOP supports Israel and Israel alone is because a substantial number of their voters believe that Israel must expand for the Second Coming of Christ to occur.

To remove the cooperation between Nasser's Egypt and the Soviet Union, the West should have actually financed the construction of the Aswan Dam, and for the US to actually allow Nasser to purchase weapons in the West. Of course, Western funding for the Aswan Dam's construction could butterfly the Suez Canal's nationalization, and at the same time the "Czech arms deal" scandal can be prevented as well.

Unfortunately, this will have one side effect: no introduction of peacekeepers, meaning that Lester B. Pearson doesn't win the Nobel Peace Prize.
