AHC: USA goes Pan-American route instead of NATO

What it says on the tin - what has to happen for this to be possible (i.e. a major world alliance consisting of at least 75% of the countries in the Americas, with the US foreign policy aimed at that instead of partners in Europe)? I would imagine the POD has to be before the 1930s, perhaps this belongs in before 1900, but I'm looking forward to seeing what everybody has.

Does this improve the station of several countries in the new world? I figure if things shake up differently you'd essentially have an alliance where America is the clear top power followed by Brazil and Argentina in terms of prosperity and influence, but that might be different here.

WWII goes badly ; afterwards, the Iron Curtain runs along the English Channel and the Pyrenees. Franco won't ally with the U.S., and Britain is barely getting by, so the U.S. re-focuses their diplomacy on the Americas.

(Iceland would probably end up a member, but classified as part of the Americas, not evil commie Europe)

Look up the Rio Treaty

Best,

Best,

I'm aware there's a lot of Pan-American cooperation IOTL, but that kind of mutual defense isn't exactly what I had in mind. What I was talking about here is an actual power bloc not unlike NATO. Or in other words, the focus of the US is on its relations here and not in Europe or elsewhere

Have the Germans win WW II in Europe

Oceania-Eurasia, basically.

That's rather ASB ; the Allies had all the oil resources, plus highly productive regions (Detroit, Magnitogorsk, Iowa, Siberia) that the Reich couldn't invade or bomb. Germany was screwed as a Power when WWI ended, let alone II.

More likely the Soviets win in Europe.

Okay ... or have the French win in Europe...

Good point. Even if they didn't win, NATO won't work without them.

What if postwar Europe looked more like
Fascist: France, Italy, Spain
Communist: OTL Warsaw Pact plus W. Germany, Austria and Balkans
Very Neutral & Worried: Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, Benelux, Scandinavia

Can this be done with an early 1900s PoD? Maybe something like a more militaristic US impeding gunboat diplomacy efforts and strengthening ties in the process?

So... Instead of supporting and working with other productive industrial democracies, the US focusses on Latin America - which given the history of US/Latin American relations probably means supporting unpopular US friendly dictators against their own people.

Don't know who the competing global power(s) might be, but the US just gave up any chance to be a superpower.

No Marshall's Plan, Europe falters as it tries to rebuild and leftist-socialists take over Europe through elections. U.S. Turns to America's and focuses on building Fortress America.
