AHC: US State that start with the following seven letters

Currently, there no U.S. states that start with any of the following letters: B, E, J, Q, X, Y, and Z. So your challenge is to get some states that start with those letters.

East Tennessee
The state of Jefferson could replace Washington as Washington already had the US capital named after him.

Bountiful (somewhere in the Great Basin)
East Virginia (after West Virginia's secession)
Jefferson (somewhere in Appalachia)
Quebec (Lower Canada joins the Union)
Xenia ("Gifts" - somewhere in the Old Northwest or Louisiana Purchase, on the prairies)
Yukon (No British settlement/claims west of the Continental Divide)
Zion (somewhere else in the Great Basin)

Best,

Buffalo (Upstate New York becomes its own state)

Edmonton (America conquers Canada, this is one of three new states)

Jalisco (All-Mexico Plan goes through; Jalisco is admitted as a US state)

Quapaw (alternate name for Ohio)

Xalapa (All-Mexico Plan goes through; this city becomes the capital of a new state to balance out Veracruz)

York (Some alternate state in the Midwest or Great Plains)

Zacatecas (All-Mexico Plan goes through; Zacatecas is admitted as a US state)

Skip the 'new' in New York and New Jersey on the basis that now that the US is independent, there is no more old York and old Jersey to confuse them with... Well, in England may be, but that's not even in the same country anymore. So that takes care of the J and Y

  • Baja California: The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo sets the U.S.-Mexican border at 31N from the Rio Grande to the Gulf of California, with everything west of the G of C going to the U.S.
  • East Florida: In the War of 1812, the U.S. captures the whole Gulf Coast from the Mississippi to the Apalachicola (runs from the SW corner of Georgia to the Gulf). The whole region becomes a single territory, with no "panhandles" for Alabama and Mississippi (but excluding the New Orleans area S of Lake Ponchartrain) and is designated West Florida. When the remaining Spanish territory east of the Apalachicola is acquired in 1819, it is designated East Florida.
  • Jacksonia: As above, except that the Territory west of the Apalachicola is named after heroic General Jackson, KIA while leading the final attack of the campaign.
  • Quebec: Arnold's expedition succeeds and Canada joins the United States.
  • Xingu: The U.S. expands to the whole of the Americas. One of the states is in the Amazon plains, running south from the lower Amazon around the Xingu river.
  • Yazoo: the eastern Mississippi Valley is divided differently. The area between the Mississippi and Tennessee, north of 35N, becomes the state of Mississippi. West Florida is south of 31-30N, from the Mississippi to the Chattahoochee-Apalachicola, again excluding New Orleans. The area from 31-30N to 35N and the Tennessee, between the Mississippi and Georgia, is split at 88W, between Alabama (to the east) and Yazoo to the west.
  • Zuni: named for the Zuni Indians in OTL New Mexico and Arizona.
How's that?

Benedictia- OTL Nova Scotia, new Brunswick, P.E.I. and northern Maine. After the capture of Quebec, Benedict Arnold leads the attempt to take Nova Scotia. He manages to fight off the redcoats in the hinterland, but is killed in the 2nd battle of Halifax. After the American victory, he grateful inhabitants adopt the name of their (almost) liberator.

British Columbia, if the U.S. somehow gains control of it during the 54-40-or-fight years.

Erie, if the area encompassed by Connecticut's Western Reserve in Northern Ohio/NW Pennsylvania became a state. It's plausible considering that the state of Michigan was named after Lake Michigan, and the province of Ontario was named after Lake Ontario.

Jefferson, if the 1941 northern California/southern Oregon attempt at secession was successful.

Queensland, if the U.S. beats Australia to the name. Queensland is a plausible name for the colony of Virginia (which in OTL was named after Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen).

Xeria, based on the Greek word for dry, xeros. A good name for one of the Desert Southwest states.

Yavapai, for the Native tribe of the same name. Possibly an alternate name for Arizona (where Yavapai county can be found). While I'm at it, Yuma would also be a plausible name.

Zephyria, a plausible name for a west-coast state (Zephyr was the ancient Greek god of the west wind).

Great work, guys! :)

Now, it's my turn:

Bahamas: The U.S. conquers British territories throughout the Americas; the Bahamas are admitted as a state.

East Dakota: Dakota Territory is instead divided by the Missouri River rather than an horizontal imaginary line.

Jamaica: The U.S. conquers British territories throughout the Americas; Jamaica is admitted as a state.

Quisqueya: The annexation of Santo Domingo is accepted by Congress; Santo Domingo is renamed to Quisqueya.

Xanadu: Named after the summer capital of Kublai Khan's Yuan empire; Located somewhere in OTL California.

Yucatan: The All-of-Mexico plan goes through; Yucatan is admitted as a state.

Zapata: Named after Colonel Jose Antonio de Zapata; Located in OTL southern Texas.
