AHC: US President *born* in Alaska

This is--in most respects [1]--a considerably more difficult challenge than "an Alaskan politician as POTUS." Most of the best-known Alaska politicians, from Ernest Gruening to Walter J. Hickel to Mike Gravel to Ted Stevens to Sarah Palin, were not born in Alaska. There are some possibilities, however:

(1) If the Fairbanks-born Mike Stepovich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Stepovich had won the rather close 1958 Senate race against Gruening http://www.ourcampaigns.com/RaceDetail.html?RaceID=3275 could he be on Nixon's list of potential running mates if Nixon is looking for a Catholic? (Stepovich is not only a Catholic but relatively young, a World War II veteran, with a large, attractive family, etc.)

(2) In a surprise choice in 1964, LBJ chooses the Valdez-born William A. Egan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_A._Egan as his running mate. LBJ remembers how close Alaska had been in 1960, wants a "westerner" to counter Goldwater's appeal, and is impressed by Egan's response to the Good Friday Earthquake.

(3) Ketchikan-born Lisa Murkowski https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Murkowski is probably too moderate to be on a GOP ticket, but maybe on a third party "No Labels" ticket?

Any other ideas?

[1] In one respect, it is easier, though--it includes Alaskan-born people who made their name elsewhere. But the only possibility I can think of would be future history, involving the Anchorage-born Curt Schilling: "Schilling has announced that he will challenge Senator Elizabeth Warren in the 2018 US Senate election in Massachusetts.[55] Schilling has also expressed interest in running for President in 2024 if Donald Trump is re-elected in 2020." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curt_Schilling

Have Mark Begich win relection in 2014, have him selected as HRC’s/Bernie’s running mate, and he’s got a shot in 2024 (or earlier if the POTUS leaves office).

I wonder whether being born in Alaska would be made into a rhetorical point about it not being born in America like the way President Obama's birth in Hawaii was politicized. Not trying to start a birther argument here but I wonder was that a function of it not being in the continental 48 states.

Probably similar to how McCain was born in the then-US controlled Panama Canal zone OTL. Some online chatter, but no one seriously suggesting that DQ'd him.

Even without him being picked as the 2016 Democratic VP, he is still a possible "dark horse" candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. :)

With Alaska (even with a birth before 1959) the case is even weaker. Alaska after 1912 was an incorporated territory of the United States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territory_of_Alaska If you were to say that someone born there wasn't a "natural born" citizen, you would have to say the same about Barry Goldwater, born in the Arizona Territory.

I never want to see a timeline where Palin is president, I think she is a crazy woman. Aside from her Christian views and stuff I just think she crazy in general.

My opinion please respect it.

You could probably have Bill Walker on a Republican ticket if he ran for higher office earlier. Or you could put him on that "No Labels" ticket instead of Murkowski.
Same thing with Byron Mallott as a Democrat. His political career seems to have been in slow motion - he first got elected fifty years ago, then he disappeared into state government for three decades, then he ran for mayor of Juneau, then he resigned after three months to go back into state government, then he ran for Governor in 2014 and merged his candidacy with Walker's.
One caveat - I don't know how much either of them would have wanted to run earlier.
