AHC: US and Mexico both great powers, and either total allies or total enemies

The US and Mexico both become great powers (or superpowers, if possible).

They are either the two closest allied nations in the world, or the two most adverse enemies in the world.

No territorial gains or losses are required or prohibited in this scenario.

Canada goes with the rest of the colonies in the revolution. Later the US buys Louisiana like OTL, colonizes the Oregon Territory, Buys Alaska, and takes Florida, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and Puerto Rico. Meanwhile Mexico revolts, manages to be even more successful and takes everything down to Panama, and later annexes Hawaii, and takes Spain's colonies in the Pacific.

While this has been going on both nations have had an uneasy peace with disagreements over where the border is resulting in some skirmishes that leads to a couple of wars that end inconclusively due to their relatively equal strength. This results in both nations reaching out to Europe for Allies in the late 1800s. Mexico befriends France and Russia which leads the US to ally with recently formed Germany. When the alliance drags everyone into a great war, that started over Russia invading Sweden due to it supporting Finnish separatists and Germany backing Sweden. The sides are the Entente (France, Russia, Britain, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, and Siam) and the Allies( Germany, the United States, the Netherlands with Belgium, Austria, Sweden, the Ottomans, Argentina-Chile, and Japan). The largest front is the American front starting from the Texas-Louisiana border to the California-Oregon border resulting in thousands of miles of trenches that split the continent in two.

If anyone knows how this would go please run with it.

1. Why would Canada go with the rest of the colonies when stuff like the Quebec act was one of the Colonials big complaints about the British? Canada leaving is just odd considering how the colonials didn't really like Canada.
2. This really doesn't deal with the endemnic political issues facing mexico or with the fact that ruling Central America happened OTL and was lost fairly quickly aftr independence. Mexico's big problem has never been in territory (even today if they had better economic management and a stable non-corrupt government they could be a great power) its that instability and problems where endemic to the Mexican state fromthe beginning and you need more than just a couple more restive provinces to fix that.

We could have the same scenario as France and England at the turn of the 20th century something only united by a common enemy and by a common agreement, trade.

It would be fun to see, US-Mexico relations be like the Franco-German one. With Texas becoming a massive equivalent to Alsace and Lorraine.
