Unless you can Islamize the North or convert the south to Hindu-Bhuddism, then there's little chance. There has been too much bad blood between the Malay Sultanates and Siam over the centuries.

That is, unless you can make Siam more involved in international trade during the pre-Portuguese era. That'll give more chance for either religion to dominate the region.

Alternatively, have Siam conquer the Malay peninsula entirely and hold onto it, or simply have the Malays never convert to Islam in the first place.

Yep. If Siam or Srivijaya (or even the Majapahit) manages to conquer the Peninsula and consolidate it, then you could have a Hindu-Buddhist South East Asia or at least Indochina.

For the Malays to never convert, on the other hand... you need to extend the Mongol Empire's lifespan by a few hundred years. There were Arabian traders sailing to the region by the 11th century and trade with them increased dramatically once the Silk Road fell into disuse and sea trade became dominant. Sooner or later, there will be that Rajah who will convert to Islam.

Considering the POD's. having Siam consolidate Malaya will do the trick.
