AHC: Unified Germany part of HRE

Is it possible for a unified Germany to remain in the Holy Roman Empire?
The HRE must consist of more states than just...Germany.
Any POD can do. But it'll make more sense if this is before the 1600s.

Bonus points if Germany includes all of Greater Germany.

Edit: Germany should be centralised and federated.

This TL has its PoD in the 19th century!
During the Risorgimento the northern Italian states asked the German Confederation for Help against Garibaldi and his Republic of (southern) Italy. This led to the entry of the surviving Italian monarchies into the German Confederation and the restoration of the HRE with an elected emperor and following member states in 1862:

  • Kingdom of Bavaria
  • Kingdom of Bohemia
  • Kingdom of Brandenburg (personal union with the Kingdom of Prussia, until the USSR conquered Prussia in 1940)
  • Kingdom of Hanover (personal union with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland)
  • Kingdom of Savoy-Piedmont (personal union with the Kingdom of Sardina, until Sardina became a republic in 1926)
  • Kingdom of Saxony
  • Kingdom of Württemberg
  • Arch Duchy of Austria (personal union with the Kingdom of Hungary, until the USSR conquered Hungary in 1940)
  • Grand Duchy of Baden
  • Grand Duchy of Hesse
  • Grand Duchy of Luxemburg (personal union with the Kingdom of the Netherlands)
  • Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg
  • Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine
  • Grand Duchy of Oldenburg
  • Grand Duchy of Saxony
  • Grand Duchy of Tuscany
  • Duchy of Anhalt
  • Duchy of Brunswick
  • Duchy of Holstein (personal union with the Kingdom of Denmark)
  • Duchy of Istria-Krain
  • Duchy of Jülich-Kleve-Berg
  • Duchy of Carinthia
  • Duchy of Lombardy
  • Duchy of Limburg (personal union with the Kingdom of the Netherlands)
  • Duchy of Modena
  • Duchy of Nassau
  • Duchy of Parma
  • Duchy of Pomerania
  • Duchy of Saxony
  • Duchy of Salzburg
  • Duchy of Silesia
  • Duchy of Styria
  • Duchy of Venetia
  • Duchy of Westphalia
  • Principality of Hohenzollern
  • Principality of Liechtenstein
  • Principality of Lippe
  • Principality of Reuss
  • Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe
  • Principality of Schwarzburg
  • Principality of Tyrol
  • Principality of Waldeck
  • Imperial City of Aachen
  • Hanseatic City of Bremen
  • Imperial City of Genoa
  • Hanseatic City of Hamburg
  • Imperial Capital of Frankfurt on the Main
  • Hanseatic City of Lübeck
  • Imperial City of Trieste
  • Imperial City of Venice
Both Prussia and Austria have been broken up in 1866. The king of Bradenburg is also grand duke og Lower Rhine, duke of Jülich-Kleve-Berg, duke of Pomerania, duke of Saxony, duke of Silesia and duke of Westphalia. The arch duke of Austria is also king of Bohemia, duke of Istria-Krain, duke of Carinthia, duke of Lombardy, duke of Salzburg, duke of Styria, duke of Venetia and prince of Tyrol.

And this is a list of all Elected Roman Emperors, German Kings, Kings of Italy:
1862 – 1888: Wilhelm I. (Hohenzollern)
1888: Friedrich IV. (Hohenzollern)
1888 – 1891: Karl VII. (Württemberg)
1891 – 1900: Umberto I. (Savoy)
1900 – 1916: Franz Joseph III. (Habsburg)
1916 – 1922: Karl VIII. (Habsburg)
1922 – 1941: Wilhelm II. (Hohenzollern)
1941 – 1968: Christian I. (Wettin)
1968 – 2006: Otto V. (Habsburg)
Since 2006: Friedrich V. (Hohenzollern)

Are you looking for a Prussian style federated state to develop within the HRE or for the HRE to develop into a single unified entity?

I should of specified for a federated Germany like the German Empire being in the HRE.

@Barbarossa Rotbart
nice but a federated Germany along with various member states in the HRE seems to be much more interesting. I doubt the revival would cause the German states to unify and at that later stage it'll be more unstable and shirt lasting.

A timeline in which all of Charlemagnes conquest stay united and our even added to. Otherwiwise having both the Holy Roman Empire and Germany existing at once seems somewhat pointless.

It is a federated Germany. All the German sates are part of the Kingdom of Germany. All of the Italian states are part of the Kigdom of Italy. And the Kingdom of Bohemia is the third member of the HRE.

Yeah, I have to agree with Samm, a TL where Charlemagne's Empire stays together will see the adition of the rest of Germany, Austria, Poland probably, and Northern Spain. For a superstate like that though, it would need a lot of consolidation. If Charlemagne had one heir and taught him reasonably well, instilling a sense of leadership in him, he could have made it a hereditary monarchy. Your challenge is indeed difficult sir!
