AHC: Tuscan Colony in the New World

Almost certainly the result is that that colony gets conquered within two decades and the Tuscans are powerless to prevent it.

The only thing that doomed the possibility of a Tuscan colony is because Ferdinando's successor Cosimo II was completely uninterested in establishing a colony in the area that Thornton explored - more or less French Guyana. It probably has a low chance of surviving given the heavy presence of the Spaniards and Portuguese but there has been stranger countries colonizing the Americas like Courland. If it's possible for them to do it, who's to say the Tuscans couldn't do it. :D

This is the sort of "pocket POD" that is very low-profile with low initial changes but could lead to a very cool timeline. I support this. It is particularly ironic given how 1) there was never an Italian colony and 2) despite Cristoforo Colombo, Giovanni Caboto, Vespucci, and Giovanni da Verrazzano all being Italian explorers in the service of foreign sovereigns, here we have an Italian expedition led by a non-Italian.
