How can we make a Chinese dynasty seek out colonialism on its own decision?

China for all its history has been insular and inward looking in comparison to the European colonial powers during the Age of Exploration/Industrial period. Although there have been periods in time where this was the opposite (Ming treasure fleets, Qing conquests etc)

There is the issue of incentive. China has pretty much what it wants, so thats the thing that needs to be figured out.

The Mongols tried to invade Japan and Java, so perhaps there was a long shot of the Yuan Dynasty becoming a sea faring colonial power.

Ming could have been one easily right?

Sure, the Zeng He expeditions were very costly, but instead of abandonning the project altogether, it could have been made a bit more rationale, with a focus on the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia to control see trade routes from and to China.

Mongols actually conquered Java because of the manipulations of Prince Nararya aka Raden Wijaya's manipulations, remove what made him close to the Mongols i.e. most likely his first wife that would be butterflied.
