AHC: Three-Sided Battle in Ireland

With the POD being 1798, imagine a three-sided battle in Ireland which involves Irish rebels, Britain, and French troops all fighting each other.

Doesn't have to been in 1798, just with a POD in 1798. Let's say the rebellion grows in strength, and by 1800 France is ready to land troops, but the Irish turn on them. I know it's unlikely, but it could be interesting.

The rebellion was entirely dependent on French support, and the fact that that lifeline was cut was the deciding factor in crippling it. 'Unlikely' doesn't begin to cover it. Why would the rebels fight the power that they depend upon for supplies? To say nothing of the fact that any successful Irish revolt in the 1790s relies upon the French landing seasoned troops with the experience and training possessed by literally none of the rebel units...

There's also the problem that even in the best-case scenario the amount of troops France can land is quite limited, which also prevents a scenario where Ireland is 'liberated' and then the French turn on their allies for some reason. Any successful rebellion hinges on a: French troops and supplies being landed and b: those troops linking up with United Irish allies. Neither one can beat the British by themselves.

So a 'three way' conflict would probably last less than six months at the longest. The British watch in bemusement as their enemies fight against each other, and then keep landing more and more troops to roll up their opponents with ease.

Unless a different French leadership were to execute the Pope rather than keeping him in detention at Savonna? You might get the Irish RC hierarchy going beyond discouraging participation as OTL to actively excommunicating anyone collaborating with the godless French. To maintain cohesion the Irish forces would have to turn on the French and at least half of them would want to when the news came through.
