In 1900 Japan had a population of 43.8 million compared to the UK with 39.8 million. By 2000 Japan had 127 million to the UK's 58.5 million.
Both countries are islands of similar size (Japan is larger but with less arable land) how could we have seen a UK that kept more pace with Japan?
