AHC: The Soviet Union lives long enough to see the millennium celebrations

This is not another 'the Soviet Union still exists during present day' thread, but rather 'the Soviet Union managed to see the arrival of the year 2000'.

POD: no earlier than 5 March 1953.

Is it possible? If so, how could another 10 years of the Soviet Union have change this alternate world?

That's perfectly doable. I wrote a TL with a PoD in 1980 that leads to a partial Soviet collapse in the 2000s, and a non-communist USSR persisting until today. A rough summary is that the Soviets repress Solidarity in Poland due to a PoD in Poland, which produces a political climate that allows hardliners to take over instead of Gorbachev. Nothing happens in the Eastern Bloc in 1989 and in 1990 Moscow uses the Gulf War to get high oil prices, giving them money to survive the 90s. Violent uprisings against communism begin in Eastern Europe in 1999 that the Soviets try to crush "Prague spring" style, unsuccessfully, resulting in a violent dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and the USSR itself a few years later.
