Try to find a way for the Ottomans, from any time in history to colonize Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia, basically the Horn of Africa.
Ethiopia is a Geographical hell for the Ottomans. This won't be successful unless larger resources are diverted from Europe or Persia to Ethiopia. This is the case for the 16th to 18th centuries.
For the 19th century however... the technology is there. And the Ottomans have a strong position, especially the Khedive of Egypt. He already conquered Sudan and forced the border all the way to Ethiopia. He has the best possibility.
For this to happen in the 19th century, the Ottomans need either Selim III to beat the Janissaries or Mahmud II to pull off an Auspicious incident before 1815. The Ottoman Empire reforms during the Napoleonic Wars and by 1830s or 1840s thet can try for Ethiopia.

The Ottomans were sending cannons n men to the Adal and Ajuran Sultanates in the 15th century to counterbalance Portugese influence in the Indian Ocean. Simple thing would be is to have both Sultanates suceed in their goals, Adal's Conquest of Abbysina and Ajuran's dislodging of the Portugese from East Africa. When they succeed it won't take much for them to become quasi-vassals.
I would say the Ottomans had enough influence but there were factions who wanted an expanded navy to fully take control of the trading network.Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, that the Horn of Africa would be a great launching off point for the influence in the Indian Ocean.
I touched upon this topic on an older thread of mine, if you guys are interested.I would say the Ottomans had enough influence but there were factions who wanted an expanded navy to fully take control of the trading network.

If the Ajuran dislodges Portugal from East Africa then it changes everything till the point the British might not show up. That polity had a colony in Sofala so the Cape of Good Hope might be Somali.Might come in handy when the British takeover. Although at the time, the Ottomans might meet the Mughals.
