Sorry for the title, probably about as simple as it could have been for the topic of the thread.
I've been toying with (and positing in threads) the idea of a single Great Christian Church with various great denominations.
The bare minimum for the challenge is to create a single Church that recognises the Roman Emperor (in this case Byzantine) as the Vice Gerent of God - but has four (or more) major branches.
1) Latin Rite, based in Rome, guarding the souls of W.Europe and the Western Med.
2) Greek Rite, based in Constantinople, guarding the souls of the Eastern Med and E.Europe.
3) Coptic Rite, based in either Alexandria that guarantees the souls of Egypt, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
4) 'Eastern' Rite, based in Jerusalem, or a new Patriarchate, that can handle Arabia/Persia (if converted) - I imagine this would likely be Nestorian.
Any other Rite groups are worth bonus points (A Chinese Rite based in Chang'an would be quite funky).
The clincher is that all these Rites must recognise that their leaders are equal in status, and that whilst there is some universal doctrine, which must be agreed by all leaders, there is allowance for variance in the Rite that does not conflict with universal doctrine.
If they are nominally subservient to the Vice Gerent of God in Constantinople, then all the better - bonus points for all.
