AHC: The Most Plausible Way for United States to Join the Central Powers

Hmm, if we assume the "Venezuela dispute turns hot" as the most likely POD with least chances of butterflies disrupting WWI as we know it, when do we assume US would enter the war ? Because a sufficiently early CP USA could have substantial effects on the decision of some powers to join the Entente.

I'd guess that Japan was too tightly bound by the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, and its entry too erly, to be affected, unless the USA join from the start.

OTOH, with an early CP USA, it becomes rather more likely that Italy and Romania would go CP as well.

That would depend on whether the US and Germany have any secret agreements (unlikely, but possible) or whether the RN starts interdicting US trade withe the CP

Err... But in a 'Venezuela goes hot' scenario, aren't Britain and Germany going to be on the same side? So Britain + Germany vs France + US for the alt-WWI?

Quite possible, which would mean other butterflies. Would there still be a Boer War or would this be avoided? Would Germany still make it's big naval build up?

You are likely to have Austria on the Anglo-German side and probably Russia on the Franco-American. The Ottomans go against Russia. The Japanese probably likewise, although this is before the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. Italy?

Ah, but I want the US to join the CP...if Germany didn't included, could it still be called CP...?
Is there any way to sour Anglo-German relationship too...?

I am of the opinion that no, it won't. Informal names are hardly likely to become widely used if they make no sense, and with major members of the Alliance not being, well, centrally located, that is the case for the Central Powers.
