AHC: The Messiah Comes

Challenge: Have a Medieval state convert to Judaism and liberate Jerusalem. Just throwing it out there: possibly the Khazars, but it in no way has to be them. The resulting Kingdom does not have to be an Empire, but should be strong enough to secure its own borders and to entice members of the Jewish diaspora to emigrate.

Added Discussion: How does Judaism develop if a ruler, claiming to be of the line of David, actually manages to retake the Holy Land from the Byzantines, the Caliphate or any successor state?

Okay, lets try this again.

Assuming that, somehow, you end up with a conquest of the Holy Land by a sympathetic ruler who invites the Jewish diaspora back to the region. Assuming that this ruler fits the general description of the Messiah, how does this impact the development of Judaism from this point forward.

Maybe the Khazars get control of the Dniepr basin, and end up compelled to build a navy due to periodic skirmishes with the Byzantines. Then, generations later, the near-fully Judaized Khazar state's ruler has a very intelligent and ambitious son...
