AHC: The German-Austrian Republic survive?

What it says on the tin. How could the German-Austrian Republic survive, gain recognition from the allies and have control over its land.

IMHO the only way it's Germany deciding probably just after Brest-Litivosk or/and Caporetto that total victory or even a simple victory in the long run it's not possible with the Americans in the entente and the better way it's a real negotiatiated peace...aka yes Berlin need to accept reality and give some serious concession (better if up front).
Things like renouncing her colonial empire in exchange of the territory of B-L, allowing the partition of the OE and A-H (in the last case even partecipating at it), leaving Belgium and give up the French part of A-L...and pay reparation

I don't think a real negotiated peace would be possible, one side or the other was going to win and both sides were not going to accept less given the leadership of the time.

You could potentially have 'German-Austria' only as part of a surviving Austrian half of the empire sans Galicia. Effectively have the Allies for some reason break Austria-Hungary into Austria and Hungary and give Galicia to Poland. Hungary would probably get broken up, while for some reason the Allies decide to make Austria an economically viable state by keeping her unified with the Czechs and Slovenes, potentially adding in the Slovaks to screw over Hungary. You might need the Habsburgs to find a clever way to exit the war and screw over Germany in the process, but I have no idea how the hell that would/could happen.

So the above red minus Galicia, Dalmatia, and perhaps parts of Slovenia and South Tyrol. An Austro-Czech state perhaps including Slovakia and parts of what became Yugoslavia IOTL plus Burgenland maybe with Oldenburg/Sopron.

I have had a thought. The republic could be potentially used as a way to weaken Germany, by it being used to entice some German states to break away and join it.

Possibly the French could give the German Austrian republic a deal, of we recognise your land claims and we will work with you and help you or, we will not recognise your claims and will not help you.

Maybe it it conditional upon reparations being payed and other terms. So they can form a custom Union and lower border restrictions but can't unite until the allies get their full payment. Which with financial shocks like OTL could be a while. Also France occupies the Ruhr and Italy parts of Tyrol. Of course then once that becomes unpopular they just leave like OTL.

However this makes Germany very powerful and could dominate the Balkans and if there isn't a sufficient counterweight would gun for round two. Maybe have a powerful USSR that swallowed up Poland and Lithuania so the Entente props up Germany as a shield against Communism. Or a surviving Tsarist Russia that allied with France can keep Germany contained.
