AHC: Tatar- Comanche War

Russia somehow manages to control most of the North American Pacific coast and decides to forcibly settle most Tartars there to clear up prime land for Russian settlers. Those Tartars clash with the nearby Comanche, who are being pushed east by the influx of Anglo settlers to Texas. Russia, relatively uninterested in the fate of their undesired minority ignores the conflict, leaving the Tartars to defend themselves alone.

Commanche migrate to Canada... or North American prairie is British...

Russians raise elite cavalry units and legions, named "The Tatars" because they are recruited from the Tatars.

Britain raise elite cavalry units and legions from Commanche tribes in exchange of their loyalty... They are infamous for their fearlessness, speed, and daring moves that earned them even more elite place than lifeguard hussars.

Come crimean war... British Commanches facing Russian Tatars somewhere in Ukraine...

Catherine the Great's offer of troops to Britain during the Revolutionary War is taken up, and cossacks crush the American revolution. The habit of hiring Russian mercenaries in times of crises sticks.

During the 1860's, the Dominion of Texas is in crisis as its settlers fight the Comanches, but most of its fighting men are either in rebellion against the Crown due to the recent abolishment of slavery or fighting for the crown, but against the more eastern slave powers like Georgia, Alabama and the Cherokee Nation.

Once again Britain turns to Russia for help, but the Russian empire has found that Cossacks who fight in the Americas tend to stay in the Americas, and this emigration is depleting their troops. So, they offer the Tatar peoples a deal: fight in the Americas, and be granted land back that was previously taken by Russian settlers. And so the Tatars find themselves shipped to Texas, to fight another horse people on unfamiliar land.

The 'Comanche squadron' (подразделение команчское) is Russia's version of the American 'Agressor' squadron: a fighter unit skilled in western air tactics flying a mixture of Russian, Israeli and American planes used to train Russian and friendly pilots in fighting 'real' western enemies in mock combat. The name comes from their insignia, a large native American head sporting war paint and a feather headdress modelled after similar insignias of American squadrons of WWI and II.

By tradition the cadets taking on the 'Comanches' as part of their training are said to be part of the 'Cossack' squadron when they are Russian/Soviet pilots while pilots from friendly nations (Warshaw pact nations in Soviet time, former Soviet states afterwards) are grouped into the 'Tatar' squadron.

'Jet Blast: Comanche Vs Tatar' was a flight simulator videogame published by Ubisoft's Romanian subsidary. In it the player is a pilot from a nonspecific Warshaw Pact air force sent to train at the Russian 'Comanche' school. Next to flying there is also a detective backstory in which the player must uncover the truth about his friend who died in the same school in a flying accident the previous year. Reportedly the game was written with the historical and technical input of several Rumanian pilots who actually were 'Tatars' once and fought the 'Comanches' with varying degrees of success.
