AHC: Syrian Civil War a 21st Century French Revolution

Can you clarify what you mean by "21st Century French Revolution"?

My guess is an incredibly violent bloodbath that entails the rejection of a wide range of societal norms and religion, the creation of a liberal dictatorship, and whatever can be construed as the modern guillotine.

Complete with a Syrian Napoleon? I'd like to see that.

It's to be noted, the 1789 revolution was actually Liberal in the European sense, not the USA sense, more... It was a revolution actually led by bourgeois and budding capitalists, who used the masses to seize power and money and all from the hereditary nobles, church officials and proprieties, kings and all, to a point.. and turned their guns and canons on the poors and the mass when peoples started to complain and push for somes of the actual moves toward them, a more true republic.

The goal never spoken much openly by Girondins and such was the Voltarian Order. That the mass work for the smaller numbers and feed them, as Voltaire said. And to make voting and all by example based on one's earnings.

Which became the République des Républicains moves after the Commune of Paris, a new form of this.

Which in a way could work, if you'd feed a rightwing non religious (well, secular-lay) sunni power base..
