AHC : Sympathetic "WW2" Germany

The imperial regime was incredibly oppressive and the people knew it.

Even if it's a constitutional monarchy, great way to boost support for the communists.
No, it wasnt. But it was incompetent and undemocratic. Thats why people ousted it, well that & loosing a war.

To be honest: I find the idea of a reestablishment of a German monarchy pretty unrealistic.

While it's nothing compared to Nazi totalitarianism, the Kaiser was effectively a military dictatorship that existed to make life easier for industrial monopolies, whether that be forcefully breaking strikes, tariffs, etc.

But yes very unrealistic.

This isnt true either. The German Empire was at one time a so called secret military dictatorship. Ludendorf & Hindenburg, but that was during the war.

I don't have a fetish about an imperial Germany; I'm just trying to think of a could have been. There was a sizable monarchist movement in Germany at that time, and with the Nazi Party out of the picture, they could have appealed to more nationalistic Germans. With the support of Ludendorf (instead of supporting the Nazis) and Hindenburg it possibly may have happened in a Nazi-less world.

The nazis were quite good at propaganda. If they won, I'm certain a few generations down the line people would be conveniently forgetting all the genocides as they taught Patriotic German History.

Eh, a Pole might disagree. A Herero certainly would. (but then, literally every European great power was incredibly oppressive towards the majority of its populace).

To be honest: I find the idea of a reestablishment of a German monarchy pretty unrealistic.

There's this rather odd meme where monarchies are always unifying national symbols able to rally people behind them. See how common it is to say a White Russia would end up restoring the Tsar, ffs.

I think you mean minority?

Its a meme, but its hardly realistic. Even more so in Weimar Germany, I mean there was a bloody revolution about this thing and there wasnt a monarchist movement to speak of.

Easy, have Weimar limp along

You call that easy ?

Actually I do call that easy. Each of the following will likely do:
  • With a less than 3% swing, Hindenburg doesn't get elected in 1925.
  • If he does get elected, he may not run for a second term or dies just after re-election. Unless Hitler gets another 15%, the new president is someone neither appoints him chancellor nor sanctions the Preussenschlag.
  • If the economy recoveres a little earlier, the window of opportunity for the Machtergreifung may pass.
  • Hitler fails to unite all ultrarigthwings under his leadership.
