AHC: Swedish Canada

This is a tough one... I know only a little of the history of OTL New Sweden along the Delaware River. It was kind of an amalgam of Swedes, Finns, & Dutch. One of the attractions for the Swedes was tabacco farming, which I think is difficult in maritime Canada. Maybe in Southern Ontario?

The Forest Finns may be the ticket for a Swedish colony in Canada. Their farm clearing methods were consistent with common Eastern Native American practice - slash and burn.

Where would they settle, though?

I do not know whether Quebec remained in French hands after the Seven Years War (which actually lasted nine years!) of 1754-63.

France needs some money. Sweden is able to move quicker than the United States.

Sweden plays a good hand of poker, buying some sparsely inhabited land with a sweetener than Montreal will have a referendum whether they wish to join Sweden first as a territory than as a full-fledged state.

Sweden sells the advantages of being a territory including lower tariffs than Montreal was then paying (please remember at this time that tariffs seemed to be the major source of tax revenue). Sweden subtly makes the case that they are more stable than France without harping on this in an offensive way.

I actually managed to do this in Ivangorod Prosperous, but let me throw my own idea.

Perhaps if "New Sweden" was founded in a different spot than the one in the Delaware River. Say, Penobscot where the Swedes could potentially establish trading posts. If the French and the Iroquois remain enemies, then the Swedes could ally with the Iroquois in ejecting the French.

Swedish 'Canada' would not exactly be called 'Canada' but an overglorified 'New Sweden', or Vinland if you may.
