AHC: swap the American and French Revolutions

Swap the characters and outcomes of the French and American Revolutions.

For example France has a mostly peaceful transition to a moderate federal republic, has a constitution that remains largely unchanged to the modern day and despite being officially secular religion still plays a significant part in its culture and politics.

The USA, on the other hand, has violent purges and terrors, is heavily centralised, goes through multiple republican and monarchist governments, frequently gets into fights with all of its neighbours and regards staunch secularism as a core national value.

This isn't much, but perhaps have George Washington (or any number of other individuals proposed IOTL for such a role) accept the title of Monarch. When the Whiskey Rebellion rolls around, there might be an even larger backlash against the US government, since, well, they'd just overthrown one King over the issue of taxes. Whether or not it would grow to a full blown second revolution, I couldn't say, but I would imagine it has the potential to develop to that point. An American monarchy might also well insist on the right to rule all the peoples of the Americas, or at least North America. Which could easily lead to more wars between the US and Canada, and even Mexico, in form of an even more aggressive Manifest Destiny.

That kind of expansionist attitude won't serve them well, all it takes is for the Spanish and French to look the other way and Britain could easily lay the boots to the USA.

Yeah, I can't imagine they'd be able to sustain that for long. At best I think they'd fight a war for Canada, and perhaps wait for an opportunity to strike at Mexico later. I wonder though, would the French even be interested in selling the Louisiana Territory to the US in this scenario, or would they have to fight a war for that, too? While they might not face much resistance from the French themselves, the English would probably take the chance to be a pain in the a**.

America has a rich history of fumbling about in Canada not accomplishing anything while Britain is distracted, anything less careful than otl could expose going after Canada for the folly it was.
The French selling Louisiana was under very particular circumstance and only after Napoleon gave up on the idea of over seas expansion, I don't see why the French would sell unless they had to alt so most likely if the Americans want it, they have to try and take it.

This is almost impossible, especially in the US.

The american and french revolutions happened the way they did because of very specific historical, geographical, cultural conditions.

No french-like revolution is possible in North America because of geography and because of its strongly entranched tradition of local government.

The territory was already far to big and much too loosely populated for a centralized tyranny to be successfully imposed on the young US.

The french revolution had an absolutist conception of power because the french monarchy was absolutist.
