AHC: Surviving Republic of *China*

As opposed to Taiwan (in practice). PODs as early as 1925 (ie., directly after Sun Yat-Sen's death). How do you do it, or can you do it?

not that hard, the USSR was always more supportive of the KMT than the CCP, even in 1945 Stalin told Mao to play nice, Mao told him to shove it.

A proper Chinese Republic would require a much nicer Chiang Kai Shek because the OTL CKS was a bit of a cock (to put it nicely). A surviving republic would also require some form of unity with the communists. Mao was revolting long before the Japanese invaded. The Chinese civil war was still being fought even when the Japanese were committing genocide (amongst other things). Both sides say the other was unwilling to stop hostilities. IMHO both were as bad as each other.

It would be down to if the Soviets feel they can be ambivalent at least to the RoC which would be hard under the complete control of a KMT under Chiang Kai Shek or if they felt Mao was too incompetent which would be a hard sell at the time.

There is not much that can overcome the rampant corruption and hyper inflation of a government in a war torn country that could lead to its virtual downfall. But perhaps if the US diverted a enough from the Marshall Plan and perhaps stationed "advisors" without the Soviets feeling the heat it could be possible at least slow the tide to the point of a large DMZ so to speak.

I wonder why everyone is talking about the Second Sino-Japanese War and later events when I deliberately specified that PODs could be as early as 1925, before the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang had grown hostile, and before Chiang Kai-Shek actually had control over the party (though I suspect it was something like the situation right before Stalin gained control over the USSR; theoretically, he didn't have power, but the chips were falling towards him).

Can ROC survive in part of Mainland China after PRC victory ?

using Yangtze as a border for example ? or managed to held Guangdong ?

or anyone who managed to hold Central China Plain always strong enough to conquer all China proper ?

The Latest possible POD I suspect is between 1936 and 1937. However, there are other questions to ask in this discussion too such as which wing of the KMT would dominate China and how would other parties and currents develop if the guomindang ever got around to holding multiparty elections under these circumstances.
