Sir, I can't read that.
With those borders? Probably none. Imean, you have the Arabian peninsula (Arabic-speaking Sunnis), Iran (Farsi-speaking Shi'ites), Afghanistan, and Pakistan (various Indian-language-speaking Sunnis) in a single country, which isn't really possible without a POD before the Shia-Sunni split, and that would butterfly away the borders in the Americas. It's another super-nations map. Just what is the best possible POD for this to happen.
lol.Uh... maybe, hundreds of years into the future, the post-capitalist era has come, humanity is on the way to forming a world federation (having gotten over their tribal, ethnic and religious differences) and these are the last few independent states. Some stuff like Russia being split in half in Siberia is still impossible to explain, but otherwise this is a cheap and easy way to explain those borders.

They can, but AFAIR there has never been a historical example of a nation stretching from Pakistan to Israel, and containing all the groups in between.Sunnis and Shi'ites can live in the same country peacefully you know. They have done so in the past. And people of different nationalities can live in the same country together as well. Nation-states are more of a Western thing anyway, and nationalism itself is not destined to arise or become as influential as it did.

At its greatest extent, yeah, but AFAIK, Shia Islam hadn't really taken off as a major movement yet.Didn't the Abbasid Caliphate have all that plus some more?
EDIT: Nope, they didn't get Pakistan. Still, you could say that there hasn't been a historical example of Byzantines surviving past 1453 AD and being a great power, but that happens on this board all the time. The existence of a historical example isn't really necessary, after all this is alternate history.
Red = United States of AmericaSir, I can't read that.
It is, yes. What language is the map IN? It's not Russian.
