AHC: Sudden Loss in Janissary Influence/Ottoman Modernization

With a POD of 1640, have the Janissary Corps lose a great deal of power and influence over the next 4 decades or so, so that by the 1680s, a new Ottoman army can/could be raised. At minimum, the Janissary Corps has to be drastically reformed, so that it can return to its warrior roots.

I'm not quite sure that this can be done, but I'm sure the folks at AH.com can give it a shot.

Potential POD:

Osman II manages to flee prior to the Janissary coup against him. He makes his way to Ankara and begins to raise an army there, while Mustafa I takes the Janissary Cops into Asia Minor to destroy Osman's army.

Osman wins the civil war and the Janissary Corps is dissolved, paving the way for military reforms.

Interesting idea, I usually used a point of departure in the early 1800s with Selim III surviving the Janissary revolt by escaping and linking up with Mustafa Bayrakdar and his army to crush them and continue his Nizam-i Cedid (New Order) reforms. With an extra hundred and fifty years to slowly reform the system, slow and steady beats fast as it means less likely resistance, and with the Janissaries who were the main brake on change out of the picture then things could diverge quite significantly from our timeline. This is a very good idea, well I like it. :)
