Emperor Flavius Diocletianus introduced a new system to the Roman Empire, as a solution for the continued crisis in third century. The system, which includes multiple emperorship (Augusti), territorial divisions, and successors (Caesars) appointment, is well-known today as Tetrarchy.
IMHO the tetrarchy itself was a VERY great idea; it allowed the Romans to deal with multiple problems in multiple fronts at once, and it absorbed potential claimants of the Imperial throne into the Imperial system itself.
However, it quickly collapsed after Diocletian's abdication. So I have a question for many Roman experts in this forum, how to make the tetrarchy last longer than the OTL...?
(a few centuries, maybe...?)
