AHC: Stuart Denmark in the 1500s

Just for the hell of it. Is there any way to make one of the Stuarts king of Denmark before 1600? How would this effect realations with England? Would they cgo for colonies in the Americas? Would this tuart king of Denmark try to expand? any thoughts?

nobody?(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Wait, how close do you want the relationship to be between England and Denmark? In other words do you mean you want the same person ruling Denmark, Denmark to be like Scotland to England, or for them to be the same country?

Relation as in foreign relations. James I and VI wouldn't be crowned until 1603

Denmark was technically an elective monarchy before 1660, with the son of the former king being 'elected'. The only way I could see this happening was if a Danish King had no sons and maybe one of his daughters was married to a King of Scots with an heir and a spare, so the younger son could be brought up in Denmark by his grandfather or something. There would also have to be a spanner put into the lineage of the Duke of Holsteins as if the direct Oldenburgs died out there is still those junior branches reigning there.

1448 would be a more opportune moment. The male line had died off.
That way the Holstein counts/Slesvig dukes could be neutralized which might appeal to the Danish nobility council - Rigsråd - as count Adolph 8 of Holstein had declined the throne but offered his nephew Christian of Oldenburg though insisting on Valdemar's treaty of 1326 of Slesvig and the Kingdom not being united under one ruler being in force; thus ensuring his independence!

The only hitch might be the insistence of the nobility council of the elected king to marry the widow of Christopher 3. (of Bavaria) Dorothea of Brandenburg but as she had only turned 18 that might not be such a bad deal. The nobility council wanted to avoid pensioning off Dorothea with some annual income and personal estates. :D

If Margaret, the Maid of Norway, survived and brought about a Scottish-Norwegian union, her descendants could easily obtain Denmark through a mixture of marriage, diplomacy, conquest and election.

If they have the cash they might pay out the Holstein counts and get it this way. ;)
