AHC: Steroids allowed in the Olympics

It's been sort of an open secret that steroids and PED's have at certain times been rampant in use in the Olympics. The USSR in the 1980's or maybe going back to the 60's comes to mind.

What if there never were any restrictions on their use and every nation was able to dope-up their competitors to whatever level they felt it took? Could you imagine such an Olympics.

I imagine there'd be quite a lot of fatalities. Steroids are, after all, drugs - and more to the point drugs designed to push the human body past the normal operating envelope.

As it is, steroid use has to be relatively low-key to fly "under the radar". Open and permitted use would mean a strong pressure towards just a bit more, just a bit more...

...which would, in turn, lead to overdose.

A more drug friendly world, where chemical enhancement is seen as a just fine path to human improvement?

The response to discover of Soviet steroid use is "Our chemists are better than their chemists!"

In terms of curiosity it would be interesting to see a Olympic category where chemical enhancement is allowed similar to other multi-sport events that cater for professions like the military as well as disabled athletes like the Paralympics.
