AHC: Stable Chinese Govt.

So the challenge here is to give mainland China a stable, unified government capable of getting things done. It can be done no later than 1930 and no earlier than the Wuchang Uprising in 1911. Bonus points if if the government is able to restore China's prestige (militarily, economically, or both).

Wouldn't the state of China IOTL satisfy all those requirements? The mainland's unified, wields quite a bit of soft power, has a thriving economy, so on and so forth.

I know, but I'm talking about an early 20th century stable government that replaces the Qing dynasty.

Until Yuan Shikai proclaimed himself Emperor of China, there was still a degree of central control over the provinces. After that, warlords in every province declared themselves the legitimate KMT leaders in their respective regions. So having Yuan Shikai keel over earlier will be a good starting point (though the KMT was hardly a cohesive unit anyways).

The key person is yeah, Yuan Shi Kai. Presumably if he was someone more competent and less ambitious it could be done.

Or WI Sun just never pass the presidency to him?

Yeah, need to get rid of Yuan Shikai.

If China has a really stable, competent, united government during WWI, maybe they'll take adavantage of European distraction in the war and try to end spheres of influence and "unequal treaties". Not sure how successful such actions could be. China would definitely still be vulnerable to Japan.
