Inspired by something that came up in one of the recent "how does japan do better" threads. Ziggs mentioned the only way would probably be for the US to be massively distracted by perhaps the British or internal unrest and civil war. I think there was even a "color" plan for the suppression of communist rebels. forget which color though... anyway:
How does the Great Depression mutate into a civil war between different ideological factions and other groups? Also, how do other powers of the time react to such a situation? Who intervenes and takes advantage of the USA's weakness? I'm guessing the US government is still probably going to survive, but a large upheaval by extremists is still going to probably have big effects im guessing...
