AHC: Spain in the Central Powers

Setting aside the political realities, simply from the

strategic situation, Spain would be in a terrible situation, with a long land border with France in Europe, another long land border with French territory in Africa, yet another long land border with Portugal, and with the remaining Spanish insular possesions and both the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts wide open to the actions of the RN, MN, and the Italians, if after 1915.

There's no liklihood of any gains and the very high liklihood of significant territorial, economic, and military losses.

Best,

Best,

True. So all it takes is to have the Spanish leadership to be as recklessly stupid as the involved countries' ones. ;)

So, what would be needed is an early, Spanish version of Mussolini, possibly coupled with a deeply-rooted distrust for metaphoric windmills.

This is more difficult than it seems. Why would the Spanish abandon their treaty with Britain, thus turning the most powerful overseas empire in the world against them? It makes more sense for Spain to join the Entente, but gains would be little, probably nothing more than a sliver of land of German Kamerun added to their Rio Muni colony, if that.
